I2063: Windows Vista
Summary
Product: FreeProxy
Versions: All versions running on Windows Vista
Note: 2063
Date reported: 23 February 2007

Issue Detail
As issues are identified with running FreeProxy on Windows Vista, they will be reported here.

Solution

Issue: FreeProxy service reports "Unable to determine Status"
There are 2 possible workarounds until a permanent solution can be found:
    1. Disable UAP
    (User Account Protection).
Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> System Configuration -> Tools -> Disable UAP
This also stops you being asked about every thing you do. Anyway, I don't know the implications of doing this. I think UA is another layer of security on top of authentication.

    2. Run as Administrator
It appears as though even if you install a program as an administrator, it will not run the program with administrative privileges unless the adminstrator flag is specifically set.
      -- In the install path
      C:Program FilesHand-Crafted SoftwareFreeProxy:
Right click on FreeProxyClient.exe and select Properties.
In the compatibility tab, under the sub-heading "Privilege Level", check the "Run this program as an administrator" and click OK.
-- Do the same for the program freeproxy.exe.
Hand-Crafted Software.
