I2003: Info: Problems with comctl32.ocx and similar ocx's
Summary
Product FreeProxy
Versions FreeProxy v2 onwards
Note 2003
Date reported 19 July 2001

Short Description
Problems with comdlg32.ocx

Issue Detail
The FreeProxy Control Centre reports that there is no comdlg32.ocx or the file is too old. Similar errors are reported for other .ocx files.

Solution
FreeProxy uses Microsoft's COMDLG32.OCX for interaction with the common dialogs such as loading and saving of files. This works on most systems but seems to give problems on some systems.

Try this procedure.

A. REGISTER THE OCX
1. Locate the file on your system. It is usually in C:WINNTSYSTEM32
2. Register the ocx as follows from the command prompt:
C:>regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx
3. Try the FreeProxy Control Centre again.

B. DOWNLOAD THE CONTROL
ONLY if step A does not work, then

1. Download the file as follows:

WINNT SP5: http://www.alphalink.com.au/~gregr/comdlgnt.zip
WIN2K SP1: http://www.alphalink.com.au/~gregr/comdlg2k.zip

2. Save your existing comdlg32.ocx file as comdlg32ocx.save
3. Unzip the downloaded file into C:winntsystem32
4. Register the OCX as described in Step A

Rectified:
From version 2.22, a new install script has been developed to include all the required files.
