Issue Detail
How do I set up mIRC

Solution
mIRC available from www.mirc.com is set up in the following way:
  1. Create a FreeProxy User
  2. Create a FreeProxy SOCKS5 port
  3. Stop and start FreeProxy
  4. Configure mIRC

Step 1: Create a FreeProxy User
From the FreeProxy Control Centre, select the Users button.
Click on the User's node, and press Add

Note: Use your own user name and password.
  • Click "Done" to save the user.
  • Click "Done" to end Users and Groups

Step 2: Create a FreeProxy SOCKS 5 port
From the FreeProxy Control Centre, click the "Port" button.
Note: you only have to create a SOCKs 5 port if you haven't already done so. You may create more than one SOCKS port as long as the client port numbers are unique.

Note: you will have a different IP address to the one shown in the diagram above.
Click "Done"

Step 3: Stop and start FreeProxy
From the FreeProxy Control Centre
  • Select Save.
  • Click Start/Stop
  • Stop the FreeProxy control centre and then start it again for the changes to be effective.

Step 4: Configure mIRC
In mIRC, select Tools -> Options.
  • Click on the "Connect" category, and then "Firewall" within that.
  • Firewall support: Server
  • Protocol: Socks 5
  • HostName: Your hostname or IP address running FreeProxy.
  • User ID: The User Name you created in Step 1.
  • Password: The password associated with the user created in Step 1.
  • Port: The same port as the client port in Step 2.

  • Press OK.
